Hello everyone, it is Emi! I hope the blogposts in the past has been helpful for you⦠for finding the ways to walk toward clutter-less life.
Some posts I have been talking about methods and ways to declutter. Some were about mindsets of minimalism. I believe both of them are equally important⦠without both, we often lose accountability for our minimalist journey.
I would love to emphasises this:
Minimalism is not your goal and purpose. But it is process and skillsets to learnβ¦for achieving your goals in life.
What I wanted to stress here isβ¦ what we do for simplify our life is not an end goal. Otherwise, somebody who has the least things win! But this is not about that, minimalist way is personal. We need to constantly ask our own βWHYβ and βHOWβ. It can be tough sometimes. I understand that for many of us, we may feel lost and even go through difficult emotional waves while have to make series of choices and try to part ways from things. One of my friend told me, βI always know I need to get rid of things! I have my reasons and goals to do itβ¦ but still can be so tricky.β
I felt her frustration. It is true, when you try to use logics and rules of decluttering but its is not always applicable to your mental struggle. In the past posts I have introduced several examples of frameworks such as βperfect ideal closet listβ, βEssentialist Shopping List during EOFY seasonβ, βmaking sections in cupboardββ¦ they are all rather structured and can be relying on our analytical brain.
I would like to introduce other angles to look into your spaceβ¦And it is a simpler principle:
COLOR. π

Judging your space by colorβ¦is rather relying more on your intuitive, innate sense of emotion.
Cohesiveness of colours in your space helps to improve sense of unity, onenessβ¦ and different colors conveys different types of energy. If you feel stuck with what to keep, what to give awayβ¦ look into how are you feeling in your space. π€
We all collectively looove colours as human. For babies and young toddlers, parents often buy colourful toys for stimulations (I may argue that it is over-stimulation sometimes), we get excited when we see rainbow πβ¦and we consume food through not only taste, smell, but also visually see the colors of ingredients π± as the satisfying factor of the meal. Colors are joy! Symbolise varietyβ¦ also give freedom! Butβ¦ be selective with it!
When our eyes are exposed with multiple stimulations from colors, it has the same overwhelming effect caused from cluttered objects. β οΈπ Letβs see from following pictures as exampleβ¦
Which pictures are more SOOTHING for your EYES? ππΏ Left or Right?
Left
Right

My colourful pens here? Or monotone collections of pens above?

This section of make ups and things my cupboard ? Or this collections of skincare products?
Hmmm!π€β¦.
I believe you could see that:
Left : busy for your eyes, looked more messy. π΅βπ« (Colors you saw: π©·π§‘ππ€π€πβ€οΈπβ¦)
Right: much more calming to look through. π (Colors you saw: π€π€π§‘)
And important thing to note here is thatβ¦ the amount of objects, and space taken by these objects are about the same. Yet, why we feel different when we lay our eyes on them? Alsoβ¦when I take quick pictures of these things from above, I found that the colourful side (Left) is more messy with the layout of materials. However, with limited colour side (Right), it seems I treat these objects with more respects! Unconsciously, I line them up straighter when I use them.
By consciously introducing limited amount of colours for our possessions, we achieve the state of peace and calmness.
I will give you a tour of my partner and my personal home now!
I ask you to find which colours are the ones we carefully choose to have in our spaceβ¦

You just saw a series of photos from our living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. I would say that the colour scheme in my space are quite cohesiveβ¦do you think so? Both my partner and I are feeling satisfied and calm from the feels of the room.
So⦠the colours and the energy you find in our place are the following:
- βͺοΈWhiteβ¦ provide lightness, simplicity, purity, Hope, and blankness.
- π’Greenβ¦ peace, balance, eco, environmental, good luck and growth.
- π€Brown/woodβ¦calm, reliable, nature, richness and being grounded
We love these feeling in our life. Of course thereβs so many other examples of great use of limited colour into interiors, such as:
- π£purple- luxurious, wisdom, qualityβ¦
- β«οΈBlack- Glamour, security, sophistication, wealthβ¦
- π‘yellow- sunlight, creativity, friendliness, confidence, wealthβ¦
- π©·Pink- femininity, sympathy, health, loveβ¦
- The list goes on!
It is up to you what feeling and personality you would like to create in your space⦠and emphasising selected colour into your space is most direct way to do it.
This is why I even colour code apps on my phone screen:
- π΅Blue- professional, intelligence, peace, efficiencyβ¦
- πOcean- Freedom, unknown, origin of life, endlessness, mesmerising, flexibilityβ¦

We spend a lot of time using our phone! If you count amount of times you open your smartphone screen a dayβ¦ I bet it is huge number. So in a sense, it is also a βspaceβ you spend a lot time in. I personally become more mindful and efficient when I feel calm while utilising technology for tasks. I like to minimise distraction and avoid feeling restless. Some of my friends think I am a bit too extreme with these effort, or even it is worthy of mockery haha π! But, it is not otherβs business, is it? My efforts here are serving me well, and make me feeling peaceful. π

This is my main screen of my iPad, that I use as βwork laptopβ. It is also colour coded and simple, I will say!
π Orange -warmness, happiness, flamboyance, fun!
I think I will go more into the details of simplify your digital space in future posts! πͺ
So⦠take care of your space well. Color is one of the guideline you can use to simplify your space. Because⦠decluttering is not only about having less things, but also putting focus on somethings matter to you.
Just in this moment, what feeling and emotion inspire you? Amplify it! πβ¨
I will see you next time! πβ¨
