Finding Harmony in the Quiet – Tackle clutter noise

(My mom’s beautiful, peaceful kitchen in the morning 🌿🌞)

Hello there, seeker of minimalist ways! I hope you are enjoying your days! I am too, just that my mind was a little busy lately, and I was struggling to put my thoughts into words… hence the delay of this blog posting this week. I was anxious if I will emotionally struggle with breaking my continuity of consistent making appearances on this platform.

However, just like decluttering our physical space so these space functions for us…productivity start from clear, peaceful mind too! Our mind is like a temple, it’s where we connect our world to selves. It benefit from regular sweeping off of burden and unwanted informations that distract us. My partner Aaron is great supporter of mine for “decluttering my mental jumble”. I truly appreciate him…He said:

What you need may be momentums of success!

(I expressed that my I was weighted down with various cares, caused me being stuck emotionally. )

He wrote down some tasks that’s easy to tackle and done these with me within the time limit we set. He said “it’s important that you can cross them off! … want to do the honour?” And handed me the list and a pen as we achieve something!✍️😁

Clutter Noise: Clearing the Mental Landscape

(My drawing of a bothered little ghost. He had some big worries in his mind! 🧠🌀)

It was effective indeed! The tasks themselves were some minor things, such as “have a walk”, “clip my nail”, “mark chores into calendar and plan for it”… but as going down the list and crossing them off, I feel my shoulder feels lighter. 🪽

The Cluttered Symphony: Unveiling the Noise

I believe many of us start to realise the correlation of physicals and mental state through minimalism. In a cluttered room many of us feels unsettled and could not wrap our head to think, function as we intend to. In my recent case, my cluttered mind was also reflected in my physical space.

Picture this: a room crammed with mismatched furniture, piles of unopened mail, and shelves groaning under the weight of tchotchkes collected over the years. It’s like a symphony of chaos playing on a loop, whispering stress and disarray into our lives. This is the cluttered voice, a constant murmur that makes us feel suffocated and overwhelmed. But fear not! Minimalism is here to help us hit the mute button.

Tip 1: Dis-labelling!

Above images are “before and after” of my laundry room simplification. I believe you notice the second image shows you a much clearer space. (Although I have been told by friends that my “before” image is very clean and tidy already!) I showed Aaron after the process without point out what I did. He noticed the difference immediately, just not sure what I did! He said “it’s so much whiter, clearer…definitely more pleasant to open this cabinet door now!”

Simple act of peeling off the labels and stickers… if you would like to engage with me in the game of “what’s the difference”, you will see the labels of detergent (two bottles) are gone in the “after image”. Also, the stickers on washing machine!

Peeling off the label from a product can create a sense of visual simplicity and cleanliness, as it removes visual clutter. Additionally, labels often contain branding, product information, or instructions that can be distracting or unnecessary after purchase. Removing the label can contribute to a more minimalistic and organized appearance.

Detergent bottle labels were no trouble to peel off, whereas stickers on machine were particularly difficult. It was melted by the heat thrown from operation of washing, and was very sticky at the bottom. When I use fingertip to peel them off, corners of the sticker keeps crumbling and felt ashy. However, I used force and determination to clean all the surfaces.

It was absolutely worth the effort! I may took just merely about 20 minutes of dislabling, and it’s going to save so much of the time I get irritated whenever I see them when engaging in laundry chores.

Here are more examples:

Bathroom cleaning supply disabling!

This kitchen’s dish washing products are from my parents’ place. I was washing couple of things at the sink, and felt that i got too stimulated from multiple bottles in front of me. On top of that, I received lots of information that I do not need. I think I should have definitely asked if my mom is happy for me to do it… but i peeled the label away.

This is from my home’s kitchen.

When I do chores, I feel that I would like to just simply immersed in the action. When I wash dishes, I want to “just be washing dishes”. It’s the simple state of being… cleaning is kind of meditation for me. So Aaron and I prefer to keep amounts of items on the counter at minimum. (I also peeled the label of these bottles too of course…! )

Tip 2: Use cohesive style storage system.

Have a look with me in my wardrobe… I was pretty much bothered and irritated when I see colourful and not consistent style hangers here.

That is why I took a long time select a replacement of hangers to create a cohesive, clean outlook for my clothing storage.

I got this aluminium hanger from a shop called Daiso (Japanese dollar shop for daily products). It is clean polish shape, smooth and pleasant to touch, and they are extremely light but feels like good queasily. It was bulky to buy them, since I got 24 of them. (Was about not over $30 I think I’m Australian dollar)

Using the same type of hanger for a clean wardrobe helps maintain a uniform and organized look. Due to clothing item comes with so much variations (colour, shape, volumes…) matching hangers will give a consistent visual aesthetic, making it easier to locate and access your clothes. Overall, using the same hanger type can enhance the overall appearance and functionality of your wardrobe.

Also… for the two different colour and style hangers that I give away…

I put them into the charity goods bin at my apartment building garbage room.

I also am a penny-pincher… like to save as much money. I do felt bit guilty to get rid of things that are perfectly functional. However if i may advise you… there is nothing more wasteful for having your time and mental state bothered even in minuscule amount repeatedly… everyday, every moment while you see them…It is absolutely worth it for you to replace them. Plus, it can be helpful for who are in needs.

In a world bombarded by constant information and distractions, our minds can become cluttered and overwhelmed. Minimalism extends beyond physical space to our mental landscape, inviting us to streamline our thoughts and focus on what truly matters!

less is more…! Unleash your mind and make your days more enjoyable and tranquil. 🌿😌

Have a great weekend!
